Materials Selection – Blanket Orders and Approval Plans  

Materials published by the following organizations are received automatically as part of a blanket order / package plan:

• AALL publications series from Hein
• Association of American Law Schools
• Bar journals in fiche from Hein
• National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws archival fiche from Hein
• Oklahoma Session Laws in fiche from Hein           

The law library participates in the following pre-publication approval plans: 

• American Bar Association - an email list is sent to the Head of Collection Services each month. The list is searched and sent to Director to choose.   Orders are placed with Yankee NOT ABA since 2016.
• YBP for University Press law titles - books are sent automatically which we keep since they are processed.

• Abstracts of book reviews in current legal periodicals and book reviews
• Miller and Schwartz, Recommended Publications for Legal Research
• Svengalis, Legal Information Buyers Guide and Reference Manual
• AALL’s Law Books Recommended for Law Libraries
• OCLC’s WorldCat database is used to determine how many other libraries own an item the library is considering purchasing

In 2010 the Library Director enrolled us in the West Library Maintenance Agreement (LMA). We agree to keep and update certain titles for an agreed upon time period.  They in turn charge us a fixed monthly charge which covers everything we receive from them on this plan.  For doing this we get a nice discount.   

A note has been put in Vacq check-in records that says --

    KEEP ALL MATERIAL, ON LMA LIST, DEC. 2010

If you have to check in the mail or assist someone who is checking in the mail, look for these notes before checking in any West titles.  This tells you it is OK to keep all material for this one title and check it in.  If there is no note send the material to the Head of Collection Services to check on the material.  It may be something that we have canceled or need to evaluate.

[We had a similar set up with Lexis but only for 2010.  That plan was not renewed.]
