Usually only the current edition is kept on Permanent Reserve for titles that circulation has chosen to house there. Older editions can usually be found in the general collection. But there are many titles where we only keep the current edition and discard the old editions. The catalog will notify patrons about this title by title. There are also notes in the check-in record about this so we can put notes in the volumes with instructions about keeping or discarding the material.
We keep Textbooks and Casebooks if they are on the OCU Law School textbook list for the last 2 years. Keep 2 copies on Permanent Reserve and other copies to general collection. We usually only get copies of these as gifts. We rarely buy them.
The Permanent Reserve Collection is kept behind the Circulation desk. This collection circulates for 2 hours. Books can be checked out overnight when the library closes.
We make multiple mfhd’s for Reserve books if we have more than 1 copy. This was started at the request of the circulation dept. By doing this it easier to see in the opac the status for each copy separately.
