Presently this searching is done by the Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Law Library. The Admin Assist receives bi-weekly notices from Yankee about new batches of titles for us to select from. These are picked based on our profile with Yankee. Basically anything classed in any of the K schedules and Native American titles classed in E are sent to us. There is a 3 ring binder kept in Collection Services that has the complete profile and a version in Nancy's email. We update this as needed. Cindy sets up a folder of titles that she searches. All librarians can look thru this folder and add their comments on whether to purchase or not. Lee is the final decision maker.
Cindy searches our catalog (LLCAT) and notes whether we have the title or not and whether we have an Ebrary copy. She then searches WorldCat Discovery and notes how many libraries total own it; how many law libraries own it, and how many OK libraries own it. She notes if particular law libraries have it - see list below. She searches in WorldCat by ISBN number. See sample below of her notes after searching = 30 total libraries have the title, none in Oklahoma; 16 total law libraries own it including Creighton, Drake, Georgetown; not purchased by any MAALL law libraries in Gobitween

Circ may ask for replacement costs for books that patrons have lost or damaged. Here are places to use for that purpose:
1. Go to Amazon.com to get prices for newish type items (published since 1990). Often times you can find out of print books here as well as new books.
2. Other places to go for prices are the publisher website.
3. A good place to go for comparison shopping for older material is AddAll.com. It searches many places such as Amazon, Alibris, etc.
Searching is one of most important things we do.
There are several versions of OCLC for use in searching -- WorldCat listed on our database page and Connexion which is used by Collection Services exclusively.
Worldcat can be searched by keyword as well as by author, title, isbn, issn. You can limit by date, type of material, audience, etc. Once the search is run you can also limit it by chosing only books, or internet, or serials, etc.
Connexion has 2 different versions - one called connexion browser; one called connexion client.
----- The Connexion Browser works through the internet though you have to log on. It has very robust searching capabilites but it has a very poor export function. It is the only way to work with our local holdings - entering, editing, and deleting.
------The Connexion client is a program that has to be downloaded to your computer. It's searching has gotten much better and it is the preferred way to download/export records into Voyager.
Here are some links to OCLC searching material ---
