2015 - 2016 Oklahoma City University School of Law Library Annual Report: Scholarship Support

Reference Questions

1,589 questions were asked by library patrons this year, compared to 2,081 in 2014-2015.

Questions range from simple directional questions to complex research questions requiring more than forty hours of research. Questions are answered by both reference and access services librarians and staff. Members of the reference department answered 1,006 reference questions in 2015-2016. This compares with 1,109 questions answered in 2014-2015.

Reserves

Permanent Reserve items are popular items held behind the circulation desk. Course Reserve items are required texts listed on course syllabi or items placed on reserve by faculty request. Both Permanent and Course Reserve items may be checked out for 2 hours at a time and must remain in the library. Permanent Reserve accounted for 6% of all reserve circulations, and Course Reserve accounted for 19% of reserve circulations.

MALLCO Statute Sharing Agreement

In August 2011, the Law Library signed the MALLCO State Statutory Code Sharing Agreement. Under this agreement participating libraries agree to maintain current print versions of select state codes and fill borrowing requests from other libraries. Under the agreement, the Law Library maintains print editions of Colorado Revised Statutes, Hawaii Revised Statutes Annotated, Idaho Code Annotated, New Mexico Statutes Annotated (Conway Green), and West's New Mexico Statutes Annotated. Though many of these state statutes are available online, many patrons need print editions. The Chickasaw Nation Library utilized this service to borrow 16 copies of state statutes in 2015-2016.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary loan is a service that supports the research and scholarship needs of faculty, students, and staff by providing access to materials that are not owned by the Oklahoma City University Law Library or the Dulaney-Browne Library. Items borrowed by OCU patrons are borrowing requests. Items lent to other institutions are lending requests. In 2015-2016, The Oklahoma City University Law Library completed 657 interlibrary loan requests: 407 borrowing requests and 250 lending requests. The number of borrowing requests has risen while the number of lending requests has dropped.
