What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a free service that provides law students, faculty, and staff access to materials not owned by the Chickasaw Nation Law Library at Oklahoma City University or the Dulaney-Browne Library.  Undergraduate students and other Oklahoma City University patrons may use Dulaney-Browne’s ILL service.

Interlibrary Loan service is not available to alumni, attorneys, or students requesting on behalf of their employers. The Metropolitan Library System and Pioneer Library System also provide ILL services to library card holders. For copies from items owned by the Law Library, alumni and attorneys may make a Document Delivery request by calling 405-208-5271.

ILL Borrowing Policy

Restrictions

The Interlibrary Loan Code of the United States, agreements with other libraries, and the copyright law govern the borrowing of materials.

The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies and other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. The Copyright Act of 1976 also places some limits on the number of copies libraries may request from recent periodicals. Due to these restrictions, the Law Library may be unable to fill requests that violate copyright law.

Interlibrary loan is intended for academic legal research only. Current textbooks are not available through interlibrary loan. Many libraries will not lend AV materials, loose-leaf treatises, or rare or fragile materials, but we may be able to request photocopies.

Renewing ILL Materials

Please email Vivian Eldridge to request a renewal from the lending library 1 week from the due date. You will be notified via email if your renewal request has been approved or denied.

Overdue and Recalled Items

Due dates for ILL items are set by the lending library. Courtesy and overdue notices will be sent to your Oklahoma City University email account.  ILL items kept overdue are subject to demerits. More than 6 overdue ILLs will result in a suspension of ILL privileges until all items are returned.

If an ILL is recalled by the lending library, you will be notified by email and will have 48 hours to return the material to the circulation desk. Recalled items kept past the 48 hour grace period are subject to demerits.

Click on the Tutorial tab above for instructions on requesting materials through ILL. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to contact a reference or circulation librarian (405-208-5271).
