Levels of Evidence: Home

links and tips for finding information related to evidence based nursing practice

Databases

Searching by Levels of Evidence

Think about key words:

  • be specific (hand washing, not hygiene)
  • be inclusive (diabetes, not diabetes milletus)
  • be brief (falls, not accidental falls)

Use advanced search:

  • limit to research reports or evidence based practice
  • limit by level of evidence only if you have more than 100 results before limiting
  • search one database at a time for best limit options

Levels of Evidence and descriptions are taken from

Melnyk, B.M. & Fineout-Overholt, E. (2011). Evidence-based practice in nursing and healthcare: A guide to best practice. Philadelphia: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins.
