Law Library Student Worker Training: Study Rooms

Policies, instructions, and training for Law Library Student Assistants

Booking a Study Room using LibCal

There are two ways to view study rooms managed by the Law Library. The first is through the public view The public view only shows when the rooms are occupied or unoccupied. This is the view seen from tablets that are near the doors of each library-managed study room. You will have to manually arrow through each day to show the correct booking grid every morning. If the tablet is stuck or unresponsive, please let your supervisor know.

The second is through an administrator view. The administrator view shows data points such as name, email, and more. Depending on what is needed different staff members will have different privileges. Student assistants will have a login provided by the Reference Librarians, and will go through training with them.

Study Room Policies

Law Library study rooms 112, 113, 114, 120, 206, 207, 215, 228, and 236 can be reserved online for current OCU Law students and OCU Law alumni studying for the Bar Exam. Rooms are available for reservation during library operating hours.

Outside of the reservation window, rooms are first-come, first-serve for the use of current OCU Law students and OCU Law alumni studying for the bar exam. Those with reservations take precedence over those without.

Study room reservations must adhere to the following rules or reservations may be canceled. Study room policies will be strictly enforced during reading and finals weeks and bar study times. Violation of these rules is a violation of the law student conduct code.

  • You must use your own OCU email address to reserve a room. You cannot use another individual’s OCU email address.

  • You must list the members of your group on the reservation. A group is defined as two or more current OCU Law students or OCU Law alumni preparing for the bar examination.

  • Rooms may be booked no more than 1 week in advance.

  • "Reservation" refers to the entire time booked by a group or an individual per day.

  • The individual reserving the room must list all the members in their group by first and last names.

  • Each person/group may reserve a maximum of 4 hours per day.

  • Reservations may not be made under multiple group members’ names to extend use of a study room beyond the maximum time.

  • Room reservations must abide by the minimum and maximum of people allowed in the following table. Reservations made outside these criteria may be cancelled.

  • Reservations may be forfeited if the group is more than 15 minutes late for their reservation or if they leave the room empty for more than 15 minutes. Unattended items will be taken to lost and found.

  • During Reading and Finals weeks, study room policies will be strictly enforced.

Tips about Study Rooms

When assisting a patron on booking a study room, make sure that the Location is the Chicksaw National Law Library instead of View All Locations. This ensures that the patron is booking a study room in the School of Law rather than Main Campus. Make sure that the date is correct.

If study rooms are empty ensure that all the chairs are pushed in, the whiteboards are erased, and there is no trash on the table or floor.

Bar takers & Study Rooms

During the summer, bar takers will have extended privileges for study rooms. Rather than the four-hour maximum, bar takers are given eight hours of study room booking a day.

This is subject to change.
