Texas Fact Finding on the Internet: Getting Started

Purpose

Often times, attorneys are asked to find out information about people, companies, and property.  The purpose of this LibGuide is to aid the researcher in locating this type of information and provide tips for searching more effectively.

Why Fact Finding is Important

While law students and attorneys are familiar with legal research, they are seldom taught how to effectively do factual research.  Attorneys need to learn how to locate people, find assets, and discover facts that can help in representing clients.  Some judges have even chided attorneys for not performing due diligence by the simple act of "googling" information about people or companies.  See Munster v. Groce, 829 N.E.2d 52 (Ind. App. 2005) for an example.
