Municipal Law: Home

This guide is about municipalities and local governments

Introduction

Most governments in Oklahoma and the United States are local governments (counties and municipalities). Municipal governments often have the greatest impact on our day-to-day lives yet they have no inherent powers. Municipalities are subordinates of state governments and  their power is derived from express transfer of authority from the State Legislature. The sources and limits to the power of municipalities can be found in Oklahoma's Constitution and statutes.
