Interlibrary Loan Processes at DBL: Trans-Amigos Express Courier

Information about ILL processes at DBL.

Trans-Amigos Express

Trans-Amigos Express (TAE, or TAEX) is a courier service offered by Amigos Library Services. Member libraries (about 230 of them) are mostly in Texas, with some in Oklahoma, and a couple in Arkansas. They have a reciprocal agreement with the Mid-America Library Alliance (MALA), MOBIUS, and Kansas Library Express (KLE), for another 600 libraries or so. The Dulaney-Browne Library's service with TAEX is for three days a week, MWF.

Most deliveries take place in 72 hours (3 days) or less, and the service plan is a fixed rate per year, with no per-item charges, so we use it whenever possible.

On our side, we have to report our closings (e.g. for holidays--ahead of time whenever possible), any other service disruptions, lost or damaged items, and monthly statistics (bags shipped out and bags received). OCU's site number is 608, and we have our own participant page to report all this information.

For library holiday closings, it's a good idea to update the holiday schedule-closed dates in OCLC at the same time as with TAEX, so you don't forget.

Sending Items through TAE

Ideally we want to have items ready to be picked up by the TAE courier by the end of the day on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, since the courier comes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

TAE and MALA each have their own shipping bags, located below the In and Out shelf for the courier. TAE bags are generally purple, the MALA bags are other colors.
